The Hermit Of The Southern March

I am reading the 10th chapter of The Horse and His Boy from C. S Lewis. I predict that the kids and the two horses will go through the Narrow Gorge to Archerland to get to Narnia. I think that because I don’t just read the book, I looked at the map it included.

I finished Chapter 10th and I know that my prediction is correct. The kids did go to the Narrow Gorge.

I also had two questions. My first question is why the hermit called the horses “cousins”? I think that he called the horses “cousins” because they are all narnians. Narnians are not people like us, they are special. The hermit could be a dwarf because he has a long beard and he can see the future.

My last question is: who would get first to Narnia, Shasta or Rabadash army? I think Shasta would get to Narnia first because the hermit showed him a shortcut and now Shasta is ahead. But it will be harder to travel with no horses around, so Shasta must hurry to Archerland.

My problem was the word “hermit”. Now I know that “hermit” means “a person who lives alone in the mountains or in the forest”. First I looked at the dictionary to find what it meant and that was “recluse”. But I didn’t know that word either so I went to look for that definition and guess what it was: “hermit”. I had to go to the online dictionary.

Across The Desert

My prediction is that Aravis will go through the desert, find Shasta and take the path of Narnia to warn Susan. I believe that because Aravis heard the plans of the prince when she was hiding behind the sofa.

I read through the chapter and now I know that my prediction was correct. Aravis did find Shasta and did set out for Narnia.
From what I read, the more comfortable time to cross the desert is at sunset because you can still see and the sun doesn’t burn you. The more the sun goes down, the colder and darker it gets. If it were I who had to cross the desert, I would bring food, drinks, a jacket and a flashlight for safety. I would also bring boots so I don’t get feet burn.

Who would get to Narnia first, Rabadash or Aravis? I think Aravis and Shasta would because they brought 2 narnians horses. Rabadash brought like 200 horses and soldiers with him. It would take a long time to sleep, eat and drink with 200 horses and soldiers. Besides, Bree and Hwin are narnians so they know the way. The other 200 don’t (they are calormen not narnians).

The world that catches my attention was “Nightingale”. I remembered that it was a bird that sings at night because of a story that I read few years ago. In this chapter, the horses and the kids fell asleep by singing caused by a bird. I think you know who that is, a Nightingale!

In The House of Tisroc

I am reading The Horse and His Boy, published by C. S Lewis (can you believe that he was born 100 years before me?). It is about a boy who escapes from his home and journey’s into Narnia. He needed a little help from a talking horse named Bree. This is the third book of The Chronicles of Narnia.

On his way, Shasta (that’s the boy’s name) found that he isn’t the only one escaping. He met a girl named Aravis who is also running from home because his dad, Tisroc, wanted her to marry Ahosta Tarkanan (and old and very rich man that she doesn’t like) and another (female) talking horse whose name is Arwin. On their way to Narnia, they all get lost in the city of Tashbaan and get separated.

Aravis needed help from her friend Lasaraleen to find Shasta who is now all alone in the desert. They have to go through the Old Palace to get to the desert and reach him. The two girls got to a room and hide behind a sofa when the Grand Vizier (his real name is Ahosta Tarkanan), the prince Rabadash and Tisroc (who is Rabadash’s father) came to the same room and started to talk in secret (guess where they sit). I predict since they are in a dark room, the girls will get away when the three men are not looking.

My prediction was not correct, instead the girls heard the whole plan that Rabadash was going to go past Arvand’s castle, then to Cair Paravel (Queen Susan’s castle in Narnia) and wait for the Splendor Hyaline, the cruise that Susan was on, and kidnap her when she got off it. She was going to be taken and be forced to marry Rabadash. My first question is: Why Susan doesn’t want to marry Rabadash? The answer to that question is that Rabadash is mean and cruel to people. What would Aravis do after she heard the plan? I think she would hurry to Narnia and mess up the plan. I had trouble with the word blot, so I went to online dictionary and found out that blot means a piece of dirt. Rabadash’s army compared to a Narnian army, the Narians would be a blot on your shirt.
